Check It Out

Sorry for the delay in my daily update: neither Weiran nor I have worked on the project much recently, with Weiran working and me… not. However, I have picked up my Ruby On Rails book again, and I have created a checkout page!

Homemade Lemonade 10¢

I can just about build (read blag) a shop for the Internet using Ruby On Rails now. Isn’t that great? I don’t know what the heck is going on, but it works, so I ain’t arguing!

In Business

And we’re off! We got MySQL running on my machinery now – thanks to Weiran’s l33t h4xx0ring (remote assistance…). He did exactly the same as me, so I am a little upset that he got it to work and I couldn’t. Sort it out!

So anyway, back to the Rails!

I H8 MySQL

No doubt I will be singing its praises and sucking up to the pioneers of the rubbish I am faced with, but I found MySQL particularly annoying today. Apparently I need to point everything to everywhere. Never mind, I’m sure I will get it sorted.

Hello World!

Well Weiran is flying way passed me in terms of learning Rails: all I have managed to do was to get my browser to greet me in the way every programmer does. It’s a geeky thing. When you learn a programming language, you get a program to greet you with Hello World! – which is neither interesting nor particularly useful. However the book does explain what the program is actually doing, so that’s good.

So I shall get back to learning something useful when I get up. Maybe.

Life On The Rails

Weiran has his book. I don’t. Ain’t life a bitch?!

Mine is at the Post Office.

Ruby On Rails

I think we have decided that the best way to design this site is through Ruby On Rails. I know nothing about it (hence we are both buying a book), but from what I’ve done it’s confusingly simple. How does it do it? Crazy!

So I guess that until we get the book, nothing will be done. And it will take at least a month of me learning Ruby On Rails before I can do anything of use. That is if I can do anything of use…

Introduction

We have an idea. We have (bits of) a plan. We have the means.

All we need is the time and effort.

Our aim is to create a community united by a common possession – a face. If you have a face, then…

We don’t care who you are, as long as you give a crap.

Stay tuned for developments!

We are Weiran and Steve.
